Antique Unit 4

Unit 4
The truck pictured above was the first piece of firefighting
apparatus to protect what was known as the Sharon Community. It is a 1946 Oren
fire truck on a Ford chassis. It has a 2 stage hale pump and a tank of unknown
capacity at his time.
This unit was often carried nearby, to the Virginia International Raceway (VIR) for standby on weekends. On an unknown date this unit became disabled and was never retrieved. In March of 2000, VIR reopened for operation, and during reconstruction of their facilities our truck was located. It was found badly damaged from years of harsh weather, scavengers and neglect.
In 2001 our Chief purchased this truck for the department at a cost of $200 of his own money. It currently sits in his back yard, awaiting the beginning of the restoration project, that is scheduled to be completed by 2011, just in time for our Departments 50th Anniversary.
The department plans to restore this piece of Tunstall firefighting history our of their own time and funds. No donation money will be put to it's restoration, unless specifically earmarked for that purpose. If you are interested in donating funds, labor, or parts for this restoration project, please contact Chief Hudson, at 434-724-4072, or email the webmaster.
